This position is located at the VA Medical Medical Center in Northport, NY. The Program Support Assistant performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties supporting the work in the Engineering Service.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties include, but are not limited to: Serves as the timekeeper. Process ID badge requests, bills of collection, and other government records. Closes out work orders and schedules meetings. Serves as the contact for visitors and screens calls forwarding to appropriate departments. Responds to routine and non-technical requests for information when the requested information concerns routine and procedural requirements, i.e., status of reports, suspense dates, information about the office, its functions and standard operating procedures, etc. Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings and/or schedules conferences as instructed and reschedules meetings when necessary, notifying participants when changes occur. Opens and distributes mail, screening prior to distribution. Performs typing work, from voice recordings or written material using Microsoft Word and other appropriate software applications. Prepares memos, letters, reports and other office material using correct grammatical content and proper format in accordance with established policy. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must possess the following: EXPERIENCE: One (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties the Program Support Assistant at the full performance level (GS-6), and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience where you were responsible for providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, maintain office calendar; answering telephones, referring visitors, and timekeeper. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: ClericalCommunicationsComputer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Planning and Evaluating IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the person in this position may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
