About the Position: This position is in the Linen Division, Materials Management Department, Directorate for Administration, Naval Medical Center Command Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. As a Linen Control Worker, you may be assigned duties in any area to perform linen operations.

Duties

Perform a variety of tasks in connection with collecting, storing, examining, weighing, surveying, and distributing linen. Collect soiled or contaminated linen from all the wards and clinics within the main hospital facility. Ensure that the linen is properly bagged and separated. Responsible for distributing various sheets, pajamas', operating scrubs, pillowcases, blankets, towels, and drapes throughout the hospital. Exchange soiled or contaminated linen for clean linen throughout outlying branch clinics. Ensure linen is always in a clean locked storage area and container. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing linen carts, and lifting supplies and equipment weighing up to 50-70 pounds.
  • Pre-employment physical examination required.
  • Rotating and/or shift work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Linen Control Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform the most common to complex Linen Control Worker duties involving the distribution of linen. I have the ability read, write and I have simple arithmetic skills. I am skilled using the proper methods and procedures for handling soiled and contaminated linen and isolating contaminated material, identifying quality and condition of various types of linen and their respective use. I am skilled using the proper procedures for receiving, inspecting, issuing and surveying linen. I am skilled at operating heat press, heat-set machines, viewing table, and sewing machines. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Lifting soiled or contaminated linen bags from 25 to 50 pounds is commonly required. The incumbent must be able to pull daily exchange carts weighing as much as300 pounds and push bulk clean and soiled linen carts weighing between 150 to 500 pounds. When working with contaminated or soiled linen, the incumbent is required to wear protective clothing, masks, and gowns. The incumbent must follow established procedures for reporting to the Linen Worker Leader such things as damaged incoming linen or unusual problems or difficulties encountered during work. The incumbent will adhere to any Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), desk manuals, established procedures, policies, regulations, or basic legislation applicable to the major duties or functions of this position. The incumbent will adhere to good safety practices and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) standards, Defense Health Agency standards and guidelines and the language within any contract associated with the Linen División. The incumbent can modify the Linen Division SOP to manage changes within the Department of Defense (DoD). All guides and instructions are available electronically. Working Conditions: Working conditions are of a nature that are occasionally uncomfortable due to high heat and humidity during the summer, cold and drafty conditions during the winter as well as occasional inadequate lighting. Exposures to these conditions are infrequent and never for any prolonged periods. This is normally a 0730 to 1600, seven days per week job. The division, however, is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 day a week through the use of military linen recall roster.
