CBO's Labor, Income Security, and Long-Term Analysis Division is seeking one or more labor economists for each of its two units to conduct research and analysis on topics of interest to the Congress.

Duties

CBOs Labor, Income Security, and Long-Term Analysis Division is seeking a labor economist for its Long-Term Analysis Unit to conduct research and analysis on topics of interest to the Congress. Analysts in the Long-Term Analysis Unit are responsible for producing projections of the population and long-term projections of federal spending; they also develop and maintain a microsimulation model that is used to produce long-term projections of Social Security spending and revenues and to analyze proposed policy changes to the Social Security program. In addition, the unit leads the agencys work on recurring reports examining the budget outlook over the long term.The successful candidate will contribute to the full range of the units responsibilities. Staff members are also encouraged to actively participate in policy research that is related to CBOs mission by presenting papers at conferences, circulating preliminary research through CBOs working paper series, and publishing in professional journals.

Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this job that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically we would find this experience in work within this field or a field that is closely related.TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics or a related field or a masters degree and at least five years of relevant work experience. The position also requires the following:Strong quantitative skills, including experience with large data sets;Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly explain analytic results to other CBO staff, Congressional staff, and Members of the Congress;A demonstrated ability to initiate and complete research projects both independently and collaboratively;Facility with handling multiple projects simultaneously, often under tight deadlines; andA desire to contribute directly to the analysis of federal policy in a nonpartisan setting.

Education

EDUCATION:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics or a related field, or a masters degree in economics or a related field with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience. Applicants with a Bachelors degree and at least 15 years of experience who have highly specialized skills that are relevant to the functioning of the division may be considered.
