You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, ELECTRICAL SHOP of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will perform engineering analyses and studies to improve the efficiency and technical robustness of calibration processes.
You will serve as an expert in mechanical and electrical measurement disciplines and consultant to laboratory and customer engineering/production personnel.
You will maintain liaison with engineers at the other Navy calibration laboratories, private contractors and the Navy METCAL technical authority to ensure proper calibration of new and existing equipment.
You will perform calibration interval analysis on test equipment and tools used to support Naval Nuclear work.
You will perform engineering investigations and analyses to determine the root cause of problems encountered during use or calibration of in-service mechanical and electrical test equipment.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience analyzing and evaluating work related to the development and execution phases of complex engineering operating programs;
Experience utilizing analytical skills to assess the technical aspects of measurement processes, perform studies, evaluations and computations to establish new, complex calibration techniques and correct deficiencies;
Experience preparing engineering reports, technical correspondence, and communicating orally;
Experience applying physics and mathematics; in particular, statistics, algebra, trigonometry, analytic geometry, and calculus;
Experience working with computer programming to streamline calibration processes via automation of data processing activities.
