You will serve as a SHIPYARD PRODUCTION SUPERINTENDENT in the INSIDE MECHANICAL SHOP, CODE 931 , PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will maintain the shop's effective organizational posture and actively direct an innovative production program to compete against other shipyards and private sector industrial activities for ship and submarine overhaul/repair/modification work.
You will analyze and evaluate shop manpower resources, work operations, equipment, and facilities against current and future scheduled work requirements.
You will maintain a balance of nuclear qualified workers in addition to non-nuclear workers to ensure the availability of necessary resources to accomplish assigned work.
You will be responsible for the execution of a training program which will provide a properly trained workforce.
You will be accountable for the effective and efficient management of the shop's personnel facilities and equipment resources.
Requirements

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Extensive experience in total Shipyard work operations, trades and shop practices.
- Experience with all phases of nuclear and nonnuclear surface or subsurface ship repair and overhaul as well as managing various levels of Shop Supervisors and trades people.
- Experience in practical analytical management techniques, including production and material control, cost control and personnel management.
- Experience in managing the development of long term training to maintain the necessary skill requirements for the shop, cost center, etc.
- Experience in negotiating agreement procedures, shipyard instructions, and OCPM Instructions in order to ensure maintenance of discipline and morale.
- Experience being familiar with precedent labor relations case decisions, etc.
