About the Position: This position is located in the Director Primary Care/Branch Clinics Norfolk Naval Shipyard Health Clinic, Occupational Medicine in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Duties
Coordinate medical surveillance programs for employees who are occupationally exposed to hazardous substances or work conditions.
Schedule patients/employees for occupationally related health care, records accompanying health care data in patients' medical records.
Discuss and educate patients/employees management, and others in occupational health matters.
Conduct individual counseling and teaching regarding patients' conditions.
Process physical examinations ensuring that employees meet requirements for specific job titles.
Issue certifications or revoke certifications as necessary.
Interview patients to obtain history prior to being seen by physician.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing screening functions for patients undergoing preemployment physical examinations and/or medical surveillance physical examinations of employees exposed to hazardous substances such as asbestos, lead, silica, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6)
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
