This position is part of the Research Services at National Archives and Records Administration. The incumbent performs duties associated with the digitization and reformatting of original archival records and photographic intermediates for preservation and access, managing digital files, creating technical and administrative metadata, and producing physical media copies.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As a Digital Imaging Specialist, you will:
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized experience for the GS-11 level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-09 level, or equivalent, that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Specialized experience is defined as experience:
- Using high-resolution overhead capture systems (e.g. Hasselblad, Phase One, or other high end camera systems); AND
- Using color management software; AND
- Managing and/or troubleshooting digital lab equipment (e.g. automated document scanners, digital copy camera systems, film scanners, etc.);
OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related;
OR You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. A combination of education and experience.
NOTE: Only graduate level education in excess of 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours), may be used to combine education and experience.

For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Reformatting digital imaging formats, such as: color & tone reproduction, scanning resolutions, file types, image enhancements or modifications, outputs & quality control inspection.; AND
- Utilizing oral or written communication skills to provide customer service interaction;
OR You may qualify with a Master's or equivalent degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, if related;
OR a LL.B or J.D, if related;
OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education, in which the percentage of specialized experience and education totals to 100%.
NOTE: Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours may be combined with experience.
