This position serves as a Program Analyst in the Department of Justice (DOJ), National Security Division (NSD). The mission of the NSD is to coordinate the Department's efforts in carrying out its core mission of combating terrorism and protecting national security.

The primary purpose of this Program Analyst position is to support a case analytics, data science or data team, which is the Department's central hub for statistical analysis on all mission-related investigations and prosecutions. Supports the collection of data both internally and from external Federal government agencies. Supports inquiries within the Department on data and statistics related to investigations and prosecutions. The duties and responsibilities for a Program Analyst, GS-0343-12/13 generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide data entry, data quality assurance, data visualization, data science, and Department business analytics solutions to support Division mission-requirements. Researches and investigates or analyzes and evaluates findings (on a quantitative or qualitative basis); advises on the potential benefits and uses; develops and recommends new or modified administrative programs and procedures, and policies, based on findings. Provides expertise in the collection and analysis of data about mission-related reviews, investigations, prosecutions, and National Security-related compliance monitoring and enforcement activities. Advises on planning, writing reports, conducting audit preparedness activities and preparations of responses, evaluation, review, and prioritization of data analysis of mission-related reviews, investigations, prosecutions, and National Security-related compliance monitoring and enforcement activities associated with assigned projects and programs, which are of prime importance to the Department's mission. Serves in a key role in helping advance the Department's strategic goals to identify descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive insights into mission-related activities that drive operational improvements across multiple areas. Oral and written communications; and development of presentations and reports. Evaluates work processes within the section and makes recommendations for improvement. Recognizes gaps in work-flows and proposes solutions in order to increase office efficiency and productivity. Prepares a variety of comprehensive status reports, management summaries, and briefing papers that identify problems, trends, and recommendations.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
  • You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Program Analyst at (GS-0343-12/13), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to. If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information). To qualify for the GS-12, you must possess the following: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector creating reports from data analytics to identify trends and provide recommendations to leadership. To qualify for the GS-13, you must possess the following: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector analyzing data and creating reports from data analytics to identify trends and presenting results to stakeholders.
