This position is in the Patient Administration Service (PAS) at the Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Michigan. The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative and clerical support to the Service Chief and Descendant Affairs within PAS.
Duties
Duties Include:
Accurately Determines Veterans meet legal requirements for burial benefits
Coordinates contract funeral and burial arrangement at the National Cemetery for all deaths outside of the Medical Center.
Researches and verifies all death notices from Health Eligibility Center prior to entering date of death into computer system.
Interprets and applies a complex body of pertinent laws, regulations, directives and policies that relate to the administration of VA Healthcare benefits.
Communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers.
Maintain confidentiality of veteran/employee information in electronic and paper format.
Processes sensitive incoming and outgoing materials for all forms of correspondence.
Perform office automation work on personal computer utilizing multiple programs to complete documentation.
Use of a wide range computer software to perform essential duties.
Meets with public and beneficiaries.
Work Schedule: A variety of work schedules are available; Work schedule will be determined upon selection.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/13/2023.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Providing administrative support in an office environment; receiving visitors and phone calls; Interpreting a variety directives and policies; utilizing computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work; communicating with clients and customers to provide quality service.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years higher education above a high school education that resulted in any type of a professional degree. (Transcript Required).
OR
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond post high school. (Transcripts Required).
