Duties

The fentanyl crisis is currently one of the most pressing problems facing the citizens Colorado. Seizures of significant amounts of deadly fentanyl are up, as are deaths resulting from the reckless use of this drug. As part of our persistent effort to combat this rising crisis, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado is currently accepting applications for a TERM Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) position within the Transnational Organized Crime and Money Laundering section of our Criminal Division. The attorney must be devoted to justice, excellence, fairness, and representing the public. We are seeking talented and diverse applicants whose professional and life experiences will enable them to work collaboratively with law enforcement to combat this crisis and other important large-scale narcotic trafficking activities. Applicants with skills in the areas of communication, financial analysis, teamwork, and problem solving are encouraged to apply. AUSAs in this section truly are part of the investigative team. If selected, you will work closely with agents from the DEA, FBI, IRS, HSI, ATF, and other state and federal agencies to develop investigative strategies, employ sophisticated surveillance techniques, and shape cases from their inception. AUSAs in this section also enjoy fast-paced litigation practices that will frequently get them on their feet in Federal District Court. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information. Selective Service: If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System, or are exempt from having to do so under the Selective Service Law.   • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
  • Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district specific information.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred applicants with demonstrable experience or skills in effective communication, problem solving, team building, and organization are preferred. Applicants with experience or skills in public speaking, financial analysis, computer science, and statistical analysis are also preferred. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
