This position is located in the Textile Care Plant of the Environmental Management Service at the Fargo VA Health Care System in Fargo, ND. The primary purpose of this position is to process a variety of soiled linens and textiles into clean and sanitary items for reuse by customers.
Duties
Major Duties:
Loads and unloads machines to rated capacities.
Programs micro-processors on laundry machines for various textile classifications.
Utilizes proper wash formulas based on classification and degree of fabric soiling.
Performs spot-clean procedures to remove stains utilizing specialty chemicals.
Determines appropriate chemicals to use on a variety of textile types.
Sorts articles to be cleaned into lots, according to color, fabric, dirt content and cleaning technique required.
Maintains written work productivity records.
Maintains chemical usage for reporting purposes.
Maintains incoming weight of linens for reporting purposes.
Makes minor adjustments to equipment.
Operates 500-pound overhead conveyer system, flat work Ironer, and small and medium piece steam-heated garment finisher.
Operates hoppers and an extensive monorail system.
Operates automated folding machines.
Monitors the washers to insure the correct water level, chemical dosage and temperature level during the washing cycle.
Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance.
Performs some hand-folding of certain linens.
Reports damaged and/or mechanical failure when detected.
Reports deficiencies in supplies or equipment as necessary.
Serves as a back-up Motor Vehicle Operator.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The employee is required to stand or walk continuously for entire shift on concrete floors; bend and use hands and arms constantly while concentrating on the proper manner of performing work tasks. Tasks also require quick hand and arm movements to meet production standards. Must have strength and stamina to perform heavy physical tasks such as pulling hot, wet wash from washers/extractors and/or pushing heavy carts weighing over 50 pounds. The employee frequently lifts linen bundles or linen items weighing over 50 pounds. Standing in place for extended periods of time at the flatwork ironer is necessary as a laundry worker.
