About the Position: This vacancy is to fill an Explosives Operator (MH/FLO) Leader position and will serve as a working leader of 8 to 15 employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. The highest level of nonsupervisory work led is Explosives & Material Handler (Forklift Operator), WG-6502-06. Shift work may be required, 1st shift 0630 - 1700 and 2nd shift 1630 - 0300.

Duties

Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led). Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from conventional ammunition and general supply locations. Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisors instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Urges or advises other employees to follow supervisor s instructions and to meet deadlines; demonstrates proper work methods. Answers workers questions regarding procedure, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders); obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work. Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (e.g., assures that machine capacities are not exceeded and that tools are properly used. Works along with other workers, setting the pace. Operates forklifts capable of lifting up to 15,000 pounds.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a non-sensitive background clearance for duration of employment.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing during employment.
  • This position requires lifting up to 70 pounds and a pre-employment physical and annual physical thereafter is required.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • The incumbent of this job is subject to the training, qualification, certification and retraining requirements of AMC-R 350-4 for operations personnel involved in conventional ammunition operations.
  • Incumbent must be physically able to be fitted with a respirator and must wear respirator as required.

Skilled in providing instructions received from supervisor, demonstrate work procedures, check work for compliance and provide status reports. Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility to Plan and Organize WorkDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsUse of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Maybe required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, materials and equipment that weighs up to 70 pounds. Operator is subject to vibrations caused by forklift truck. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside. May work inside in areas that are hot, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted. May work in bad weather in such outside areas as open docks and storage yards. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises, falls from ladders, or injury from material handling equipment. When operating forklift, injury may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, overturning, falling objects, or accidents with other moving equipment.
