This position serves as Supervisory Supply Technician for Supply Chain Management/Logistics Service within the Edward Hines Jr VA Hospital system.
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Supply Chain Management Service by directing, supervising, and managing the primary inventory point that receives stores and issues supplies and material for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets and adjusts short term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work based on priorities.
Advises, counsels, and instructs employees on work and administrative manners, such as complaints, grievances, etc.
Finds and implements ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production.
Provides guidance and evaluates work involving new, complex, or unusual situations and those without clear precedence.
Oversees management and distribution of all supplies and material in the medical center through subordinates who maintain stock, monitor expiration dates and rotating stock, ensure critical supplies are monitored, perform daily inventory, resolve differences in records, distribute items, deliver supplies in a timely manner, and complete specialty cart preparation.
Oversees the receipt of supplies and material into the medical center.
Ensures supplies are unpacked and properly stored in inventory areas.
Analyzes and resolves difficult issues and problems to plan effectively and render equitable and reliable decisions.
Conducts market research on all new products and ensures they are recorded in the automated inventory system.
Ensures availability of recurring supply items which are managed and distributed through the computerized inventory management system.
Analyzes management reports to manage and control the fund control point limitations and identify trends, correct errors, and resolve problems.
Works with members of the vendor and/or contract community, managers, supervisors, and other staff throughout the medical center on Logistics issues; and
Communicates with subordinate staff and other administrative and clinical staff to coordinate and persuade logistics activities on the implementation of policy or procedural changes.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday with variable shifts.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/03/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the following:
You must have one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Supervisory Supply Technician (Medical) position.
Specialized experience includes: planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff; establishing priorities for a department; overseeing the receipt and distribution of supplies and materials for a complex medical center; maintaining stock at inventory locations; monitors expiration dates; ensure supplies are delivered timely; training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures; ensuring proper storage of supplies and materials; resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of wok production and quality of work.
Driver's License Requirement: Applicants must possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license, have a safe driving record, and demonstrate that he or she is medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely. Applicants are required to pass agency Government Vehicle Drivers physical examination.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Work is normally accomplished within a supply office and supply distribution points with the majority of time utilizing the automated inventory system for inventory management, processing orders, distributing supplies, conducting physical inventories in t he warehouse and various supply points. Responsible for the storage and distribution of supplies to both primary and secondary inventory points, as well as within the bulk supply areas. This may include movement of stock to assist in counting, storing, rotating, and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets. Physical exertions and demands include standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching, and pushing/pulling supply carts and lifting supplies up to 50 pounds are required.
Works primarily in a supply office and supply distribution points that support the Storage and Distribution of supplies. Multiple interruptions are experience throughout the day resulting from telephone and personal contacts with individuals requiring information, guidance, or problem solving. Protective and special clothing is worn to prevent exposure to dangerous materials; hair covers, shoe covers, and gloves are worn as required when delivering supplies into clean/sterile areas and managing verification of inventory stock levels within the primaries. Physical dispersion of the facility may make it necessary to make deliveries over uneven terrain and/or in adverse weather conditions
