Duties

This Supply Technician position is located in the Logistics Service and ensures supplies and materials are distributed to all areas served by Logistics. Leads three or more GS-2005 employees in the distribution area to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and materials. Duties include: Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization. Gives on the job training to new employees. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines. Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor. Reports to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs, and on behavior problems or issues. Provides information to supervisor concerning promotions, reassignments, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs. Maintains stock at inventory locations for clinical and administrative services. Pulls stock inventory and material from main inventory for delivery. Interacts with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified and resolved or elevated to the supervisor. Checks inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts. Ensures critical supplies are monitored and controlled, resolving deviations, and escalating significant deviations to supervisors. Performs daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment. Distributes items according to requirements in computerized inventory management system such as GIP. Receives supplies and materials, into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area. Unpacks or uncrates supplies from shipping cartons and properly stores supplies and materials in the main inventory area. Stores items in accordance with established guidelines utilizing a computerized inventory system. Work Schedule: Sunday thru Thursday, 2:30pm-11:00pm. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/03/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Specialized Experience GS-6: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position would consist of: Experience in positions that required the utilization of computerized systems for ordering, inventory, and communication; utilization of barcode-based computer systems, such as Generic Inventory Package (GIP), to ensure proper input and interpretation of computer data; ability to interpret computer printouts and take appropriate action from within the barcode-based computer system; experience in working with the maintenance of inventory and issuance of supplies; experience in utilizing computer systems to track inventory, record purchase orders, and prepare reports; ability to set priorities; ability to produce required tasks in a logical order and on a timely basis; communication and customer service skills in relationship to customers, staff and vendors; and experience in delivering, shipping and receiving items, supplies and/or equipment. CommunicationsCustomer ServiceTechnical CompetenceTechnology Application Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds. Driver's License Requirement: Applicants must possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license, have a safe driving record, and demonstrate that he or she is medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely. Applicants are required to pass agency Government Vehicle Drivers physical examination. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do NOT submit a copy of your driver's license with your application package.
