About the Position: This position serves in the Toxicology (TOX) Directorate, Army Public Health Center. This position is in the Defense Health Agency Public Health, Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD. Duties

Determine the biological and toxicological effects of chemical compounds on vertebrate biological systems, emphasizing on mechanistic toxicology and in vitro methods. Develop background data. Recommend approved substances use and potential for environmental and occupational exposures. Conduct comprehensive literature reviews on specific content, obtains and reviews primary literature and provides synopsis of results in a clear, concise and accurate format.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. THIS IS AN INTERDISCIPLINARY POSITION AND MAY BE FILLED WITH ANY OF THE BELOW OCCUPATIONS. BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR BIOLOGIST (0401): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A. above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirement for the Toxicologist 0415 Series: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology. In addition to meeting the basic education requirement above, you MUST also possess specialized experience and/or additional directly-related education in the amounts listed below: Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes: assist with plans to conduct toxicology or biological assessments; provide assistance on the management of programs in areas such as biological or toxicological studies; and ensure compliance with laws and regulations dealing with areas such as hazardous, toxic materials, and/or waste management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years (54 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Biological Science, Physical Science, or other directly-related field of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required three years which when combined, the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience GS-12: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: conducting toxicology or biological assessments; managing programs in areas such as biological or toxicological studies; and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations dealing with areas such as hazardous, toxic materials, and/or waste management. Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts. You may submit unofficial college transcripts to show successful completion of degree or college course work. However, official college transcripts will be required before you can report to duty.
