THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for aT5 SECRETARY (OA) , Position Description Number PDT5101000 and is part of theSC AASF, South Carolina National Guard.

Duties

***This is a Title 5 National Guard Employee position description.*** This position is located in an Army or Air National Guard organization or unit. Its purpose is to serve as the personal assistant and principal clerical and administrative support to one or more supervisors. Organization(s) serviced is subdivided into subordinate segments, which are supervised through one or more levels of supervision, or is of limited complexity where extensive responsibility exists for outside coordination. Participates intensively in the management of the office by applying a good working knowledge of the program under control of the supervisor(s) and relieves the supervisor(s) of clerical and administrative support work. Work involves assisting one individual, and in some cases his/her staff by providing clerical or administrative support.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION (AOC): This is a Title 5 "Excepted Service " position under the authority of Title V, P.L. 114-328, Sections 932 and 1084 (FY17 NDAA)", and is open to US citizens interested in helping the Department of the Army meet our mission requirements. This position is open to Area 1 Only. Please note that applicants outside of these categories may not be considered. Area 1: Current employees (Tenure 1 and 2 / internal to the Agency) Area 2: All other applicants (external to the Agency) *Temporary and Indefinite employees do not meet permanent tenure requirements and are not eligible for Area 1. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training performing any combination of the following tasks: typing (letters, forms); general clerical (answering the telephone, receiving visitors, composing correspondence, filing, reviewing outgoing correspondence for grammar, format, etc.) stenographic (taking and transcribing shorthand). Experience using computer and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 9 months experience performing clerical or administrative duties in an office environment. Must have experience performing office functions such as, referring visitors, screening telephone calls and to route correspondence by name or functional area. Experience working independently and setting priorities with very little supervisory control. *Other Requirements - For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES: 1. The incumbent of this position description must have, at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment. 2. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.

Education

Substitution of Education for specialized experience: Completion of 2 academic years of education in an accredited college or university will satisfy the requirements for GS-4 positions. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience for GS-5 positions.
