This position is part of the U. S. African Development Foundation (USADF). As a Student Trainee (Information Technology) under the direction of the supervisor and other Program Division staff assigned to manage the grant portfolios of countries in West Africa/Central Africa (WACA) or East Africa/South Africa (EASA), the incumbent performs a limited scope of analytical, administrative, and information technology responsibilities in support of the Information Technology Section.
Duties
Assists higher-graded staff in the application of computer software and installation and/or maintenance of computer hardware.
Assists the technicians in fact-finding to define and describe the objectives, purposes and procedures of the work involved and routine procedures to ensure smooth operation of the computer systems assigned.
Utilizes well-defined steps, assists with loading commercially purchased or locally developed software onto personal computers.
Assists with system installation operation, communication, and maintenance, e.g., helps to set-up new pc workstations, assists with Local Area Network (LAN) installations, performs minor system maintenance and/or upgrades.
Manages Information Technology (IT) Equipment. Conducts mandatory inventory, oversees IT equipment logistics, turn-in process, and inventory levels.
Assists in reviewing software packages, reports, procedural manuals, and processing objectives to discern similar but differing requirements for application to the command’s information processing requirements.

Eligibility Requirements:
In order to be eligible for the Pathways Not-to-Exceed Internship Program, the following qualifications must be met:
Be a U.S. citizen;
Be at least 16 years of age;
Be a student enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree or certificate seeking student taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load in an accredited technical, vocational, 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school. The Certificate Program requirement includes post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum.
Possess and maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA or equivalent on a 4.0 scale.
*If you are currently enrolled, but in your last semester/quarter of completing your degree/certificate requirements, you must show proof of continued education such as an acceptance letter or you will be disqualified.
In order to be converted to a term or permanent position you will be required to complete 640 hours of employment.
Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
A combination of education and/or experience may substitute for the specialized experience requirement.
GS-07:
Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree.
OR
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level.
Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes but is not limited to: 1) Assists in executing routine procedures to ensure smooth operation of the computer systems assigned; 2) Assists in conducting system installation operation, communication, and maintenance, e.g., helps to set-up new pc workstations, assists with Local Area Network (LAN) installations, performs minor system maintenance and/or upgrades, etc. 3) Performs a segment of the evaluative work of an administrative function; identifies issues or problems and seeks alternative solutions consistent with applicable regulations. Works independently in completing assignments; completed work is reviewed for effectiveness in meeting goals; guidelines such as regulations, evaluation criteria, and precedents have gaps in specificity.
