Duties

You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities. You will perform airfield firefighting by involving air traffic or support operations where hazardous conditions are. You will operate a variety of firefighting equipment. You will combat fire or rescue personnel on board ships where conditions create very difficult and dangerous situations.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • All qualifications requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.
  • Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You must have reached your 37 birthday prior to appointment.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
  • Incumbent is required to work a 72-hour week on a 48-hour on/48-hour off basis that includes weekends and holidays. May be subject to recall.
  • Incumbent is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience. GS-05 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial volunteer, governmental fire department brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Operating fire communications equipment; 5) Controlling hazardous materials incidents. OR Have successfully completed a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or another related field of study. OR Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. ***The GS-05 position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and Firefighter II. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro-Board to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications you will be rated ineligible. Copies of Certifications MUST be submitted with your application.*** GS-04 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial volunteer, governmental fire department brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Operating fire communications equipment. OR Have successfully completed a 2-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or another related field of study leading to a Bachelor's degree. OR Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. ***The GS-04 position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain the Firefighter I and Firefighter II certification within 12 months of employment.*** DEGREE AUDITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
