You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the FEDERAL FIRE DEPARTMENT of NB CORONADO.
Duties
You will assess agency compliance with law, regulations, policies, and requirements related to fire prevention of fire protection programs.
You will survey and inspect a fire department to determine current training conditions and future training requirements.
You will inspect a fire station to verify training objectives are accomplished and documented.
You will prepare outlines for student firefighter training.
You will counsel firefighters regarding fire training and compliance with the minimum training standards.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

- This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

- The incumbent may be required to work overtime, shift, weekends, holiday, or rotating shifts.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Determining training program requirements for all levels (basic, refresher, advanced, and specialized) of fire protection and prevention, emergency medical, and dispatch functions; 2) Evaluating the effectiveness of training programs and recommends improvements; 3) Preparing budget estimates for training programs; 4) Investigating and/or reviewing fires to determine origin/cause; 5) Providing the full range of supervisory services for subordinate employees (i.e. determining training requirements, administering EEO principles, ensuring staff safety, etc.). This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Airport Firefighter, Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector II, and HAZMAT Incident Commander. These certifications must be awarded by National Registry, DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirements. If you do not possess the certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Required to respond to working fires and related emergencies to evaluate effectiveness of the overall training program and assist as required. Required to demonstrate tasks and functions necessary in the protection of life and property to firefighters, auxiliary fire party personnel, and others as assigned. Must be physically and mentally qualified to perform all firefighting and related hazardous duties of the position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Firefighting is a dangerous occupation requiring special safety precautions, i.e., protective clothing, helmets, boots, coats, gloves, special equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus. The employee instructs firefighting personnel and emphasizes use of protective clothing and special equipment when responding to working fires. This position works a 56 hour work week.
