We are looking for a Nurse (Research Specialist) whom will have responsibility for exercising the full domain of practice for the specialty of clinical research nursing including care provided to research participants, as well as activities to support study implementation, data collection and human subject protection. Duties

Serve as a leader in an area of clinical practice and directs the delivery of nursing care to a specific population of patients. Serve as the primary nurse or coordinator of care for a specific population of patients in which the nurse has developed advanced knowledge and expertise. Develop plans to address patient's comprehensive needs including education, safety, comfort and spirituality. Master and maintain competence in all relevant nursing skills and the use of associated technology and is able to teach same to less experienced nursing staff and other colleagues. Coordinate and initiate internal and external referrals and the multidisciplinary care of research patients. Plan and evaluate care including establishing policies, guidelines and priorities. Identify required resources and collaborates to acquire same. Monitors progress and evaluates outcomes. Deliver nursing care in a manner consistent with the organizational policies and standards of practice, and consistent with nursing practices taught through academic nursing programs. Use judgment and sound decision-making in providing nursing care for patients with complex needs.

Qualifications

In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse Specialist (Research), GS-0610, you must meet: Education Requirement:In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse Specialist (Research), GS-0610, you must: Have a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. NOTE: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools; AND License: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition. they must possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; AND NCLEX-RN: You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment. Additional Qualifications for GS-12: In addition to the basic education and licensure requirements, in order to qualify for the Nurse Specialist (Research) GS-0610-12 position below, you must have at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing specialized nursing care in a clinical research environment; implementing program outreach and patient recruitment initiatives for research programs; recruiting and screening new patients and assessing their eligibility for clinical trials; managing specific nursing aspects of clinical protocols within a research program; providing patient and family counseling, health education, and serving as a patient advocate; and discussing with patients, volunteers, and family members the basis of research studies as well as the roles of various team members, protocol specifics and anticipated schedule of events. Additional Qualifications for GS-13: In addition to the basic education and licensure requirements, in order to qualify for the Nurse Specialist (Research) GS-0610-13 position below, you must have at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning, designing, and developing clinical research protocols; providing specialized nursing care to patients in a research environment; participating as a multidisciplinary team member involved in clinical trials including well established communication skills and proficiency in organizing, implementing, coordinating complex treatment and research plans; providing patient and family education and counseling; providing clinical trial design, coordinating and implementing, data, and study data management; and evaluating trends in research study outcomes and compliance, in order to contribute to the design of research studies. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
