The employee will serve as a Program Support Assistant (OA) within the Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service Line, at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System, in Des Moines, IA. The employee assists the Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) Program Director in all clerical and administrative facets of the program and oversees the program office in his or her absence.
Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Maintains a calendar of appointments, meetings, conferences and deadlines for the service chief.
Utilizes an electronic time and attendance computer program to perform timekeeping duties for all employees.
Communicates effectively with customers, staff and management.
Handles conflict and problems in dealing with customers, constructively and appropriately.
Types a variety of documents into final form, ensuring correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format and style.
Performs office automation work on personal computer utilizing multiple programs to complete documentation.
Utilizes a range of software applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) to prepare correspondence.
Receives and reviews all incoming correspondence.
Coordinates meetings and prepares meeting minutes.
Maintains office supplies and equipment.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: typing documents; maintaining calendars; performing office automation work on personal computer utilizing multiple programs; receiving and reviewing all incoming correspondence; coordinating meetings and preparing meeting minutes; and communicating effectively with customers, staff and management.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Successful completion of (4) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items (medical records, supplies, computing devices, manuals, papers, books), or driving an automobile. The work requires manual dexterity for the computer data entry, office machine operation and filing. However, in general, the work does not require unusual physical demands. The work does require emotional stability to resolve crisis situations.
