About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Personnel Security Specialist for the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Administration Security Division. Positions will be filled in Falls Church, VA.
This is not a remote position.
Salary negotiation may be available for those highly qualified candidates who are new to Federal service.
Student Loan repayment may be authorized for highly qualified candidates.
Duties
Serve as the Personnel Security Specialist processing contractor and subcontractor classification and clearance levels required for contract performance.
Provide technical and administrative assistance in the formulation of policies, plans, and procedures in the area of personnel security investigations for contractors.
Assist the Lead Personnel Security Specialists in the performance of inherently government duties of the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Trust Agency Sponsorship System (TASS).
Maintain liaison with all Defense agency customers, the Defense Security Service, FBI, OPM, and other DOD and Federal adjudications and security offices, to obtain or provide personnel security information.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. Incumbent must obtain the below SPeD Certifications within their first two years of employment:
- Core SPeD Certifications: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) and the Department of Defense (DoD) Personnel Security Certification (PSC).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) monitoring automated security systems (such as the Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (E-QIP) program) and all requests for investigations to ensure timely processing; (2) reviewing all incoming security forms, fingerprint cards, and supporting documentation to detect omissions in information and/or errors in execution; and (3) processing suitability and security eligibility determinations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Safety and Security Management; National Security; Intelligence and Security Studies; Criminal Justice; Law Enforcement.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
