This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and Major Range and Test Facilities base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Work with engineering to verify specifications of electronic equipment. Assist lower-grade mechanics on system peculiarities and potential problem areas. Establish test setups and test procedures. Troubleshoot highly complex electronic equipment. Provide additional assistance on equipment with unusual problems.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain the Associate Level and Journeyman level CET certification per Electronics Technicians Association, International, within two (2) years of placement into the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a SECRET security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work and overtime to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment and annual physical.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervisor: Ability to perform common test, troubleshoot, repair and overhaul on complex electronic equipment and systems. Install a variety of major components and related devices of complex electronics equipment. And provide technical assistance and advice to individuals or groups of lower-level workers. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating Physical Efforts: Incumbent frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise handles items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, items greater than 40 pounds are handled, but assistance is usually available. Work is performed in a sitting position for extended periods, and frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required. Working Conditions: Works inside well-lighted, heated, and ventilated shop area and in outside work areas, usually in good weather conditions. Exposed to possibility of various burns caused by electrical shock, RF energy, hot components, and to microwave radiation. Subject to cuts, bruises, and scrapes from handling equipment. Travels as senior mechanic to repair and/or install equipment systems serviced.
