This position serves as the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) Coordinator for the Research and Development (R&D) Service of the VA Medical Center in Salem, VA.
Duties

Manages the Subcommittee on Research Safety (SRS);
Takes meeting minutes, documents the review and approval of studies, documents reports of laboratory safety inspections, reviews and modifies procedures, and submits protocols;
Manages safety surveys;
Creates and maintains program calendars and databases;
Monitors and tracks research projects, activities, and related training;
Supports the Institutional Review Board (IRB) administrator in the management and tracking of protocols, training, and generation of reports;
Assists staff with IRB submissions and tracking approvals;
Ensures all research records are compliant, adheres to operating procedures for records keeping and archiving;
Maintains tracking logs for document disposition dates and destructs research records when appropriate;
Establishes, coordinates, monitors, analyzes, and manages program outcomes;
Works with R&D administration and investigators to develop programming that will meet the needs and interests of the local medical community;
Assesses and evaluates the results of the program using objective techniques;
Coordinates with the Public Relations Officer on all research-based news releases including press releases, social media posts, and television spots;
Performs related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:45am - 4:30pm.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-09: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: performing administrative duties in support of a medical/clinical research program/project; preparing research and documents for submission to review committees; and resolving issues related to project management as they arise. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~OR~
A master's degree, equivalent graduate degree, 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.B. or J.D. in a related field that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. One year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Transcripts required. ~OR~

Physical Requirements: The work of this position is sedentary in nature, although some slight physical effort will occasionally be required, for example, when lifting and carrying light items/supplies. Occasional travel may be required. The work is primarily performed in a normal office environment, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The primary work environment involves exposures to the everyday risks and discomforts typical of offices, libraries, and conference rooms, and does not involve exposures to any hazards or conditions that would require the observance of special safety precautions or the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
