Duties
You will provide timely, responsive and appropriately compliant IT solutions in support of Space Science Division (SSD) current and future space science research.
You will manage all efforts across the SSD branches for IT system administration, IT security implementation and associated technical documentation and accreditation.
You will provide system administration for Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Solaris and other Unix-based systems and servers, to include user desktop systems, division servers and infrastructure.
You will serve as the SSD Information System Security Officer, Network Technical Representative and IT team leader for the staff to ensure that directives, policies, data calls, procedures, processes, and deadlines are met, implemented, and reported.
You will develop and recommend annual in-house IT hardware and software budget.
You will monitor and approve the procurement of new IT systems to ensure integration into the SSD IT infrastructure and DON compliance including IT purchase approval, evaluation, disposition, and policy compliance.

- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
Qualifications
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS 5-10 grade level or NO-02 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Utilizing IT systems, computer operations, functions and capabilities including developing comprehensive IT policies, procedures and techniques; Applying Federal and DoD Information Assurance regulations, policies and standards to IT systems; Identifying and protecting information and materials from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, or loss utilizing diverse and broad based information systems principles, practices, procedures, requirements, techniques and applicable laws; Providing effective IT solutions to administrative and research staff by using critical thinking skills and troubleshooting methodology; Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively orally and in writing to serve as a representative for the organization.

Education
The following may be substituted in lieu of specialized experience:
Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management;
OR
Successful completion of 3 full years (54 hours) of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
OR
A combination of education and experience totaling 100%.
