About the Position: This a Human Resource Assistant (Military) position located at the US Army Garrison, Military Personnel Division, Ft. Leavenworth, KS. You will perform a variety of both procedural and substantive clerical work related to military records and personnel processing.
Recruitment, relocation and/or retention incentives are NOT being offered for this position.
Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized.
Duties
As a Human Resources Assistant (Military), you are responsible for the following:
Perform a complete review of records to ensure all updates are accurately reflected in human resources systems.
Screen lists of all enlisted and officers eligible for promotion and reconcile promotion eligible lists.
Process retirement, separation or transition applications.
Provide guidance and assist with in/out processing transactions relating to military personnel records.
Assist with processing passport/visa applications and ID cards.
Research and provide explanations regarding rules, procedures, and requirements to military employees.
Review documentation of actions leading to the removal of military members from active to inactive status.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing office automation software to create documents and/or reports and providing customer service. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT for GS-05: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
