This position is under the direct supervision of the electrical shop supervisor, and is assigned to the Electric Shop, Plant Operations Unit, Engineering Service, at the Miami VA Healthcare System. The plant consists of many technical and sophisticated systems which act as support for various types of related/dependent equipment. Electrical and mechanical repair of these systems and equipment requires specialized skills, which insure continuity of operations essential to patient care delivery.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Maintain facilities of the physical plant and equipment, including maintenance, installation and repair of medical equipment, electrical fixtures, fans, gas and oil-fired heating equipment, laundry equipment, ice machines, safety equipment, etc.
Conduct a wide range of tests of a variety of circuits and equipment detecting faults such as electrical grounds and short circuits in systems.
Use all tools and equipment of the electrical trade, working from schematics, diagrams, engineering drawings, National and Local Codes, VA Standards and specifications, sketches and many various memoranda.
Performs installation of electrical circuits emanating from selected electrical panels, including all types of circuit breakers, receptacles, switches, fluorescent lighting and other components, both indoors and outdoors.
Plan and layout work for jobs, prepare material for installations, analyze defects or malfunctions in electrical systems or components to systems and be able to repair and replace parts in accordance with manufactures/VA specifications.

Physical Requirements: Make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms and other hard-to-reach places. This requires electrical workers him to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Electrical workers frequently lift and carry tools, equipment and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and less often up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 kilograms.
