Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY: As a Program Specialist, you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by: Maintaining current knowledge of state systems change efforts, mandatory program trends, research, and promising and evidence-based practices related to employment and training programs, as well as their intersections with other social service programs. Staying abreast of and initiating new ideas, policies, strategies, partnerships, and promising practices that could result in employment and training program improvements or improve policy and practice with regard to employment and economic mobility initiatives and work supports in related social service programs for low-income individuals and families, vulnerable populations, and communities with concentrated poverty. Leading in implementing such improvements in coordination with regional offices. Employing a variety of coordination, coaching, facilitating, consensus building, and planning in assuring that the work of team members is carried out in accordance with Office of Regional Operations (ORO) vision, values, goals, and strategic objectives. Preparing written material to support and promote sound practices on initiatives and priorities, and in response to informational requests.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Basic Qualifications: You must meet one of the items listed below (A, B, or C): A. Possess a degree in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Must provide transcripts) B. Possess a combination of education and experience -- that provided you with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Must provide transcript) C. Possess four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Minimum Qualifications: You must have one-year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing at least three (3) of the following tasks: Conducting and evaluating research related to employment and training programs and their intersections with other social service programs. Participating in committees and working groups related to employment and training and economic mobility. Conducting research activities including surveys, interviews, and case studies to inform decisions about policy development related to workforce employment and training programs. Preparing written material to support and promote program initiatives and priorities. NOTE: Education and experience may be combined for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
