This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans; Executive Secretariat. Serves as a required coordinator for all materials prepared for the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and other Senior Leadership of Homeland Security. The incumbent has the critical responsibility for ensuring the quality and accuracy of materials and the appropriate flow and control of priority correspondence. Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Duties

As a Correspondence Analyst, GS-0301-9/11/12, your typical work assignments may include the following: The incumbent has the critical responsibility for ensuring the quality and accuracy of materials and the appropriate flow and control of priority correspondence received from and transmitted to the White House, Congress, other Federal agencies, the private sector, and the general public. Reviews and prioritizes all incoming correspondence for offices within the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans. Provides status reports and suggestions to the supervisor on improving work operations. Communicate with departmental office directors and high-level officials, other Correspondence Analysts and professional staff members, to discuss the status of correspondence, outstanding controlled items and pending projects. Provides expertise in improving the quality of the content of responses, as well as feedback on controlled items. Utilizes a computer system to log incoming correspondence and assign an appropriate due date. All DHS-HQ announcements have a 5 business day open period due to the number of applications received. Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-9 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: Communicating deadlines for completion to management on correspondence material. Providing status reports to senior officials to improve work operations; and Ensuring requests for information is routed to the appropriate official for review. OR A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related ; OR A combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used to qualify for the GS-09 level. You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: Communicating with senior officials to provide updates on outstanding and/or pending items. Analyzing data to compile weekly and/or monthly reports; and Preparing final correspondences, briefing materials and/or other documents to provide feedback on policy related issues. OR A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related ; OR A combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first two years may be used to qualify for the GS-11 level. You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: Communicating with senior officials to provide updates on outstanding and/or pending items. Analyzing data to compile weekly and/or monthly reports; and Preparing final correspondences, briefing materials and/or other documents to provide feedback on policy related issues. Conduct outreach and training activities to assist PLCY personnel in their efforts to respond to taskings and prepare staff packages and correspondence for PLCY and DHS senior leadership. Review and assign action items to appropriate PLCY teams, log and track task status, negotiate extensions to deadlines, anticipate impediments to successful and timely responses, and report task status to Executive Secretariat management. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement. Note: Current or former Federal employees MUST submit a copy of their SF-50 Form which shows competitive service appointment ("position occupied" block 34 on the SF-50 should show a "1"), tenure group (block 24 should show a 1 or 2), grade, and salary. If you are applying for a higher grade, please provide the SF-50 Form which shows the length of time you have been in your current/highest grade (examples of appropriate SF-50s include promotions, With-in Grade/Range Increases, and SF-50s dated a year apart within the same grade/job).
