As a Alternate Dispute Resolution Mediator at the GS-0301-12 you will be part of Miami District Office, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. If selected, you will be responsible for providing neutral ADR mediation services on behalf of the EEOC in disputes that involve a mutually agreeable resolution to alleged employment discrimination. You will also promote and contribute to the ADR Program through education, technical assistance and other outreach or informational efforts.
Duties
Duties may include but are not limited to: Counsels potential mediation participants and their representatives regarding mediation as an alternative to an administrative EEOC investigation or other formal procedures.
Mediates employment disputes arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or other related federal statutes.
Uses a variety of alternative dispute resolution techniques. Facilitates party interaction provides parties with resolution options to bring about successful resolution.
Exercises resourcefulness and ingenuity to win cooperation of the participants or to develop new approaches or solutions to problems where accepted methods and techniques have been challenged.
Establishes a high degree of acceptability to the parties involved, particularly when issues are sensitive and the parties are hostile and resistant to compromise.
Drafts and revises as necessary settlement agreements and other case closure documents and submits factual and timely mediation reports.
Mediates disputes that may include highly complex and complicated issues. In some cases, the mediation requires the application of new solutions or innovative techniques.
Prepares and delivers speeches, training or presentations to a large array of agency stakeholders on overall EEOC policies, mediation, and substantive issues facing the agency and its stakeholders.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
- Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
Qualifications
For the GS-12: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized work experience comparable to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service directly related to performing ADR in Equal Employment Opportunity-related disputes, such as using mediation and other techniques to facilitate communication between disputants to break impasses and/or to further parties' understanding of different perspectives and interests in order to successfully guide parties toward mutual agreement; promoting the use of ADR as a vehicle for resolution of employment-related disputes (with emphasis on EEO disputes) through organizing and delivering public presentations about mediation to organizations.
