About the position: This position will be assigned to the Equestrian Center, Air Force Academy, CO.
This position does not include benefits.
Duties
Assists in planning and scheduling recreation programs and special events for USAFA Equestrian Center.
Drives vehicle to various sites.
During the absence of a manager, resolves customer complaints and other day-to-day operational issues and elevates unresolved employee complaints to supervisor.
Responsible for leading the work of staff assigned to USAF Equestrian Center, when management is unavailable to include distributing and balancing workload among employees.
While leading, observes work in progress, production, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
Instructs and trains new employees.
Rings up sales in register and follows proper cash handling procedures.
Prepares daily cash reports and deposit bag/slip.
Prepares reports and other statistical and financial data pertaining to the stables for items such as grain, hay, number of horses rented, etc.
Assists in ordering, purchasing and receiving supplies and inventory items.
Responsible for leading the work of staff assigned to USAFA Equestrian Center, when management is unavailable.
Distributes and balances workload among employees.
Observes work in progress, production, and adherence to quality and safety standards. Instructs and trains new employees.
Curries and brushes horses; combs mane and tail; cleans hoofs.
Saddles horses for riders.
Maintains equipment, e.g., saddles, bridles, etc., and makes minor repairs to fences and facility.
Feeds, waters, and exercises horses.
Grains and turns horses into the corral area.
Cleans stables area; cleans water tanks in full care, partial care and pasture areas.
Observes horses for obvious changes in behavior, appearance, and activity; informs supervisor if necessary.
May accompany or guide various recreational trips when necessary.
Manages volunteer program.
Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
Must have working experience in the equine/horseback riding field and knowledge of horsemanship and equipment, rules and procedures as related to the activity.
Progressively responsible experience in clerical duties in the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody, or other processing of cash items when this includes (1) direct handling of cash items and, (2) use of cash accountability control methods.
Must have computer experience to perform basic computer operations.
Experience making reservations is preferred.
Experience leading others in a recreational environment or similar activity is preferred.
Applicant must have good organizational skills.
Must have the ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, and policies.
A valid driver's license is required.
Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.
Must provide a copy of driving record.
This is a drug testing designated position.
The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment physical is required.
A Local Files Check (LFC) and satisfactory completion of a Tier One Investigation is required.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
