The Program Support Assistant is responsible for support activities of both a technical and administrative nature directly related to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects and programs of the MRSA/Infection Control Program. Position aligns under Specialty Care.
Duties
Major duties, include but are not limited to the following:
Provides administrative support to the MRSA/Infection Control staff and to major Medical Center Committees as directed by the Chair, Infection Control or MRSA/Infection Control staff.
The incumbent assists in establishing and maintaining current and accurate information systems that contain all data records, materials and follow-up documentation related to MRSA/Infection Control activities. In addition, the incumbent disseminates pertinent information to appropriate staff, administrators, and all other relevant medical center personnel. Provides assistance in performing analyses and/or evaluation of programs and projects. Obtains, organizes, files, and retrieves reports, correspondence, and numerical data for use in preparing status reports, briefings, and presentations. Assists committees by attending meetings to fulfill documentation requirements of the committees (i.e. acts as recorder). Assists the MRSA/Infection Control staff by attending unit briefings for the distribution of Infection Prevention materials and promotional items, and for documentation requirements. Assists with collection of information for reporting requirements for MRSA/Infection Control. Assists with tracking activities and suspense items related to the MRSA/Infection Control Program. Enters data elements into the appropriate database and/or tracking systems. Assists with maintaining and updating program websites with current information.
Integrates data from hospital-wide and service-level performance improvement programs into reports and databases. Assists in developing questionnaires and templates for hospital-wide use. Assists in collecting necessary data and assembling data into meaningful and appropriate graphs.
Maintains controls on incoming correspondence and distributes/delegates to appropriate staff, and follows up to ensure timely reply or action. Answers inquires on status of projects, reports, and correspondence and other items. Answers telephone and takes messages.
Performs other duties as assigned relating to MRSA/Infection Control Quality Management/Performance Improvement. Provides cross coverage for other departmental program support positions as needed to maintain the effectiveness of the program.
Work Schedule: Full Time. Monday-Friday. 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/26/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Typing Requirement: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
(Office Automation) typing requirement of 40 words per minute typing speed -Words per minute are based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge and skill in oral and written communication, interpersonal and group dynamics. Skill in operating computers and software systems and related equipment such as scanners, modems, etc. (This experience must be well documented in your resume.).

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. It involves some bending, stooping, reach, lifting of light items, and walking. The work requires periods of concentration to organize, perform, coordinate, and report on all aspects of the development and support functions of the MRSA/Infection Control.
