This position is located in the Wireline Competition Bureau, Office of the Bureau Chief, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) located in Washington, DC. Relocation expenses will not be paid. THIS VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT MAY BE USED TO FILL ADDITIONAL POSITIONS WITHIN 90 DAYS.

Duties

Serves as staff assistant for the immediate office of the Bureau Chief and ensures that the practices and procedures used by clerical and administrative staff in subordinate divisions are consistent with those of the immediate office. Assists with devising and installing office procedures and practices for use by administrative support staff in the divisions.  Assists with recommending changes in administrative policies, as needed.   Serves as the point of contact and liaison for Congressional correspondence.  Receives visitors and telephone calls from various sources. Assembles and organizes agenda item material received for monthly Commission meetings. Maintains the Bureau Chief’s calendar.  Performs various administrative support duties as required (e.g., travel, timecards, supplies, tracking, document preparation, etc.). Handles all details in connection with official domestic and international travel by the Bureau Chief, and other management staff. Maintains office procedures and filing systems for the Bureau’s front office, e.g., reference materials, organization manuals, policy documents, and directives. Participates in larger projects, as needed, researching information and analyzing documents and data to assist senior specialists and other professionals, coordinating large conferences and/or working groups.  Work may involve preparing a variety of documents (e.g., memos, letters, reports, forms, presentations) using various software applications. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.   TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the specialized experience, eligibility, and/or education requirements, you must type at least 40 words per minute.  Applicant may self-certify typing proficiency.~AND~  Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-8 in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience includes the following:     Communicating with high ranking officials within and outside the agency; Composing and preparing a variety of written documents using software applications; Maintaining appointment schedules and arranging conferences and meetings; Researching data/information for inclusion in reports and documents, and/or special projects; and Making travel arrangements, preparing travel documents, and monitoring time and attendance records. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
