You will serve as an Information Technology Specialist (SYSADMIN/CUSTSPT) in the Digital Repair Division, Weapons Repair Department of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR. *This announcement is for an Upward Mobility Program position.*

Duties

You will perform a variety of developmental tasks assigned by the supervisor. You will plan, schedule, diagnose and resolve problems in response to customer reported IT issues. You will assist with the installation and integration of systems fixes and updates. You will resolve hardware and software interface and interoperability problems by ensuring systems availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency. You will assist with LAN administrator duties. You will mitigate identified problems and communicate necessary information to customers and management.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • Work requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
  • This position has duties that require periods of standing and walking in office and industrial areas and onboard ships and includes climbing stairs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

The Upward Mobility Program is a unique job opportunity. This program is designed to provide Department of Navy employees career growth opportunities who have potential but do not presently meet the Office of Personnel Management qualification requirements for this position. The entry level for this position is GS-07 with a full performance level of GS-11. Knowledge of employees selected may vary and will require the development of an individually tailored training plan to assist them in qualifying for the full performance level of this position. Eligibility requires that the employee be performing satisfactorily, complete all training requirements, acquire the requisite qualifications and have met time-in-grade eligibility for career ladder promotions. This recruitment is open to current UIC 68438 employees with GS-07 or WG-07 (or higher) equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to install, maintain, and provide end-user support for information technology systems. Employee Participation Requirements Must be a current permanent employee serving under a competitive appointment, or on a time-limited or excepted appointment that provides for noncompetitive conversion to a permanent appointment (e.g., VRA, Schedule A Individuals with Disabilities).
