This position is located in the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Lakeview District, Klamath Falls Field Office. The work involves applying a considerable number of conventional but established technical and administrative methods, procedures, practices, and solutions to a variety of conditions involving forestry programs and activities.

Duties

Salary Ranges - Klamath Falls, OR: GS-08: $51,713 - $67,231 per year; GS-09: $57,118 - $ 74,250 per year. Major Duties for the GS-08 level will be similar to those listed below with closer supervision. At the full performance level (GS-09), Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Collecting data during field examination of forest stands and compiling data and updating inventory records. Coordinating pre-inventory mapping by preliminary delineation in geographic information systems (GIS). Initiating and conducting inventory surveys according to accepted standards and techniques. Reviewing data for technical accuracy; and compiling maps of forest and woodland areas, cutover areas, burned areas, and special use areas. Designing, preparing, and administering standard forest development projects including site preparation, reforestation, seedling protection, pre-commercial thinning and fertilization, vegetation management and stand conversion. Maintaining qualifications for Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) or Project Inspector (PI) in order to supervise project construction, monitor contract compliance, and/or approve project completion.

Requirements

Qualifications

In order to qualify you must meet the experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Minimum Qualification Requirement, GS-08: Have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: (1) recognizing forest hazards to communicate and assist in prescribing mitigation measures; (2) Managing and monitoring forestry projects to identify and correct deficiencies or resolve operational problems; (3) Utilizing geospatial equipment, such as Global Positing Systems (GPS) and maps for field data collection in order to transfer data into automated systems or databases for analysis; and (4) Developing reports and content for planning documents. Minimum Qualification Requirement, GS-09: Have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: (1) Independently recognizing forest hazards to communicate and prescribe mitigation measures; (2) Planning, managing, monitoring, and implementing forestry projects to identify and correct deficiencies or resolve operational problems; (3) Utilizing geospatial equipment, such as Global Positing Systems (GPS) and maps for field data collection in order to transfer data into automated systems or databases for analysis; and (4) Preparing analyses to develop reports and content for planning documents. Status merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-8 level; and One year at the GS-08 is required to meet time-in-grade requirements for the GS-9 level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted). You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
