NEH is an independent grant-making agency of the government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities.

Duties

The Humanities Administrator position is responsible for administering grants related to the specific subject matter supported by the Office of Digital Humanities and throughout the NEH. The functions of the Office of Digital Humanities (ODH) is to advance excellence in humanities research, education, preservation and access, and public programs by supporting humanities projects that utilize or study the impact of digital technology. A particular area of interest is helping to build and support cyber infrastructure - that is, the technology methods, techniques, tools, and networks necessary to support advanced research. The incumbent is also responsible for the following. Reviews grant proposals and assess eligibility and consistency with Endowment goals. Arranges for review and evaluation of grant proposals by peer review panelists. Presents office policies, procedures, and funding recommendations orally and in writing to internal and external audiences. Develops new grant programs within the NEH and with external partners. Promotes the work of the Office and larger goals of the Endowment to outside constituents. Works collaboratively with other Office staff members to advance the mission of the Office and the NEH.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example: experience working for a year or more in a public education, programming or curatorial position in a library or museum; teaching classes in the humanities; or working as a team member on a digital humanities project. Humanities related work was performed with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, requiring extended professional training and experience and which has demonstrated important attainments and marked capacity for independent work. At the GS-13 level Qualified candidates must possess: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level or equivalent experience. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example: experience working for a year or more in a public education, programming or curatorial position in a library or museum; teaching classes in the humanities; or working as a team member on a digital humanities project. Humanities related work was performed with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, requiring extended professional training and experience and which has demonstrated important attainments and marked capacity for independent work. Experience at this level must also include a year or more performing grants management-related work with a grantmaking organization.

Education

A Masters degree in a discipline of the humanities, the humanistic social sciences, library or information sciences.
