About the Position: Serves as manager of the installation Suicide Prevention Program and works in conjunction with the Installation Community Health Promotion Council (CHPC) to ensure that suicide prevention activities are carried out in accordance with guidance in AR 600-63.
Duties
Ensure that installation suicide prevention efforts involve post wide education/awareness for all active duty, family members and civilian work force.
Integrate efforts of commanders, chaplains/unit ministry teams, behavioral health and other medical staff, health promotion officers.
Stay current on latest research findings related to suicide prevention and ensures suicide prevention task force receives updates on findings.
Disseminate information on the latest research findings related to suicide prevention to educate personnel.
Research topics and develops articles promoting suicide prevention for the installation newspaper.
Maintain communication with subordinates to fully integrate a community approach on suicide prevention.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must gain certified prevention professional status through ACSAP within 3 years of assuming their duties.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

Basic Requirement for Suicide Prevention Program Manager:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing a suicide prevention program, promoting suicide prevention awareness, and executing a risk reduction program This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
