The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Legislative Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel, Office of the Deputy General Counsel (Fiscal, Ethics and Administrative Law).

Duties

Assists in actively engaging Department of Air Force (DAF) Headquarters, United States Air Force and United States Space Force clients to develop DAF legislative proposals linked to key AF initiatives in support of the National Defense Strategy. Recognized throughout the Department of the Air Force as a subject matter expert on the legal aspects of the DAF's legislative review process. Leads the Air Force General Counsel Legislative Working Group. As assigned· and without direct supervision, accomplishes specialized legislation- or legislative review process related projects that require a very high level of legal training and experience. Represents the General Counsel's office at meetings on issues relating to legislative proposals impacting Department of the Air Force interests.

• Must have graduated from an accredited law school and obtained admission to, and be in good standing with, the bar of a state or territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico
• This position meets the professional exemption criteria for the Fair Labor Standards Act (5 CFR 551.207)
• Prior to receiving an offer, you will be asked to provide a writing sample demonstrating your legal analytical skills

Qualifications

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: You MUST have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD). SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the above requirement: you must have professional legal experience in excess of three (3) years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of applicable substantive federal laws, regulations, and policies. 2. Knowledge of the role and duties of the Government attorney. 3. Ability to apply knowledge of the law to help achieve Air Force policy and programmatic objectives; AND Ability to communicate complex legal issues and theories effectively orally and in writing. 4. Skill in various research methodologies, including computer-assisted technologies; AND Skill in gathering data and conducting interviews. 5. Knowledge of communication methodologies and staffing processes peculiar to the legal profession. 6. Education

Must be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and be currently licensed as an attorney, in active (or equivalent) status and in good standing, with the bar of a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth. The attorney must maintain such bar membership in at least one jurisdiction during the entire course of employment with the Air Force.
