The Tampa VA Healthcare System Chiropractic Service utilize standard medical evaluation procedures along with biomechanical assessment to establish a diagnosis and formulate a management plan. They consult with other health care providers and refer patients in accordance with accepted medical lidications. Chiropractic treatment includes a number of options such as patient education, therapeutic exercise, and lifestyle recommendations.
Duties
Duties performed by the Chiropractor include (but are not limited to):
Providing patient instruction and recommendations pertaining to hygiene, nutrition, exercise, sanitary measures, lifestyles changes, stress reductions, and modifications of ergonomic factors.
Performing standard manual procedures consistent with chiropractic care as commonly contained in the core curriculum of Council on Chiropractic Education-accredited chiropractic colleges.
Providing other CIH services, consistent with individual training and licensure, and facility needs.
Making referrals to other clinicians including medical, surgical and behavioral health specialities, and other providers such as physical therapists and occupational therapist.
Establishing diagnosis and treatment plan.
Performing patient history and physicial examination.Professionalism:
May be trained and licensed to deliver a number of interventions currently classified as Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) therapies such as acupuncture, biologically based preparations, and mind -body therapies.
Demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients, their profession.
Expected to demonstrate both an understanding of the contexts and systems in which health care is provided, and the ability to apply this knowledge to improve optimizing health care.
Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in a coutreous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Provide the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am-4:00pm

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Degree of Doctor of Chiropractic, or its equivalent, resulting from a course of education in chiropractic. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools or colleges approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
(1) United States schools or colleges of chiropractic listed as accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, at http://www.cce-usa.org/, or equivalent agency, in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed. (2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
License: Current, full, and unrestricted license (Doctor of Chiropractic) to practice chiropractic in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
English Language Proficiency: Doctor of Chiropractic appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Preferred Experience: 2 years of experience as a chiropractor or have completed a qualified residency program.
Grade Determinations: Grade determinations will be determined by the National Chiropractic Professional Standards Board based on the following requirements, the selected applicants' qualifications and the duties of the position to be filled.
Associate Grade:
None beyond the basic requirements.
Full Grade:
Two years of full-time chiropractic practice or its equivalent. One year of full-time post-graduate residency specialty training from a chiropractic school or college accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, or equivalent agency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, is acceptable in lieu of the 2 years of practice. Candidate must have demonstrated the professional competence and performance necessary to provide independently the full range of clinical diagnosis and chiropractic treatment for the most prevalent neuro-musculoskeletal conditions including subluxation complex.
Preferred Experience:
Clinical Rehabilitation and Chiropractor experience
Knowledge of PMRS. Able to provide examination, diagnosis, treatment and mangement of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions using non-pharmacologic nad non-operative methods. Must be trained and licensed.
