This vacancy is for a Student Trainee - Broadband Program Specialist in the National Telecommunications and Information Administration within the Department of Commerce. This vacancy is for a Pathways Intern opportunity with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). The NTIA Broadband program promotes innovation and economic growth by supporting efforts to expand broadband connectivity and meaningful use across America.

Duties

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented individuals to join our Pathways Internship Program (IP). Internships can be seasonal (spring, summer, fall) or year-round. Interns may work full-time while on academic breaks or part-time (up to 20 hours per week) while attending school. The Internship Program under the Pathways Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in Federal agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and getting paid for work performed. At the successful conclusion of this program, you may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional position. As a Student Trainee - Broadband Program Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Assist senior Program Specialists in the areas of broadband policy and program planning and evaluation, and preparation of briefings for management. Provide direct support to senior Program Specialists or supervisory managerial staff by independently collecting, analyzing, and presenting information related to broadband policies and programs. Prepare recurring and special reports and summaries from broadband data requiring substantial analysis and interpretation and development of new formats. Drafts summaries, briefs and memoranda on core issues of concern to NTIA, including broadband policy and program issues. Perform a broad range of duties using various computer software programs to perform such operations as updating, revising, sorting, and manipulating data in spreadsheets. Assist NTIA staff by performing internal research and analysis to identify key issues and trends in broadband policy and programs. Basic Requirement: To qualify for the GS-07 Student Trainee (Broadband Program Specialist) position you meet the following: Must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate. AND Experience: To qualify at the GS-7 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level performing research of policies or laws, assisting in the preparation of reports and data, and Collecting, analyzing and presenting information. OR Education: One academic year of graduate education in a course of study that directly reflects the duties of the position OR Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. NOTE: It is your responsibility to ensure your application clearly states how you meet one of the provisions below: A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher based on a 4.0 scale for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last 2 full years of undergraduate study; A GPA of 3.5 or higher based on a 4.0 scale for required courses completed in a major field of study, or those courses completed in a major field of study during the last two years of undergraduate study; Class standing of upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision of the college; Membership in a national Scholastic Honor Society certified by the Association of College honor Societies, excluding freshman honor societies. OR A combination of college-level education and experience that combined meet the qualification requirements for this position. Highly desired: Pursuing a degree in a related field to the position such as business administration, telecommunications management/technology, network communications, electronic and digital media communications, information systems management etc. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
