Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance to support the litigation needs of the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Nebraska. Typical work assignments will include:
Review of mail for discovery items and complete intake procedures
Performs routine litigation support tasks necessary to process common electronically stored information (e.g., PDF files, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint files, emails, etc.) and prepare it for review or production by the litigation team.
Maintains accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials, adhering to office tracking protocols, such as by completing standardized inventory or tracking forms.
Uses software applications to extract electronic case materials from storage devices or download electronic case materials from secure file transfer sites.
Organizes and prepares electronic files for processing. Uses specialized software applications to perform basic processing of common electronic files. Performs quality control on processed files and addresses any identified issues.
Builds and maintains document review databases for litigation team use. Loads image, native, or text files into document review databases; performs quality control on loaded files and addresses any identified issues.
Uses basic document review database functions such as coding, tagging, basic searching, sorting, and filtering, and advises litigation teams on these functions' use.
Generates basic electronic discovery productions (e.g., Bates-numbered images with redactions and searchable text) that comply with production specifications and deadlines, including productions from document review databases.
Provides customer support services to litigation team members relating to their use of litigation technology applications. Such services include basic troubleshooting, user assistance, and occasional basic training in response to case team needs. Assists with preparing training materials for litigation technology applications.
Works with litigation team members to understand case presentation needs. Suggests methods or software applications for presenting evidence or producing demonstrative exhibits. Creates electronic versions of exhibits for court filings, depositions, hearings, or trials.
Assists with the creation of basic demonstrative exhibits.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications
GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized Experience:At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as providing automated litigation assistance by preparing discovery productions, including scanning, and coding documents and creating DVDs; assisting in the use of technology to organize digital evidence; maintaining production logs by adhering to office protocol; and provides technical support such as duplicating documents and marking exhibits.
Education:One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, J.D.): one (1) full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR a completed Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with Superior Academic Achievement (see definition in the "Education Section" of this vacancy announcement). Education must be obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position;
Combination of Specialized Experience and Education:A combination of specialized experience and graduate education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements.
GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as providing automated litigation assistance such as maintains accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials; uses software applications to extract electronic case materials from storage devices or download electronic case materials from secure file transfer sites; loads image, native, or text files into document review databases; and uses software applications to copy electronic discovery productions to external media or file transfer systems.
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Law, or Criminal Justice): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 (two) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR LL.B. or J.D., if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
Combining Education and Experience: A combination of experience and graduate level education can be used if, when combined, are equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
