About the Position: As Section Chief, is responsible for planning, scheduling, staffing, directing, and controlling the architectural and structural engineering and design functions of civil works projects to produce quality products on schedule and within budget through the Project Management Business Process (PMBP).
This position will be located in St. Louis, MO and will allow for occasional telework only.
Duties
Supervises engineering design technical efforts in accordance with mission requirements.
Plans, schedules, and provides technical direction over professional and technical Section employees engaged in a variety of architectural and structural engineering design and technical management of project work.
Performs work involving technical engineering design and management, project study, and/or reporting typical of and integral to the total engineering process.
Confers with others to resolve problems of unusual complexity concerned with topographic, foundation, or other engineering matters related to architectural and structural design considerations.
Assures quality of products through adherence to Corps of Engineers review requirements and Quality Management processes.
Participates in dam and levee safety inspections, design, analysis, review, and quality assurance oversight in support of MVS’s hydropower mission, support design and analysis of miscellaneous flood control structures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires you to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE450) upon entry, and annually thereafter.
- Current registration/licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. (Please upload a copy of your license with your application.)
- Incumbent must be qualified to drive Government vehicles in accordance with Corps of Engineers standards.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Minimum Qualifications GS-13:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes leading and/or directing teams through various phases of assigned engineering projects; reviewing structural engineering, design, and/or technical specifications; and resolving structural design issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job at the GS-13, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
