About the Position: Serves as a Human Resources Technician in a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). Incumbent of this position provides administrative support to the Reception-Administration Control Desk (RACD), Record Maintenance & Accountability, and Enlistment Processing.

Duties

Fingerprint applicants using automated systems, ensuring fingerprints are acceptable. Operate a keyboard to record alpha and numeric data reflecting all aspects of the qualifications and enlistment data for entrants to all branches of the Armed Services. Assist with the preparation of transportation orders, amendments to transportation orders, delayed entry program orders for active duty and Reserve personnel assigned to the Navy, Air Force, Army, Army Reserve, Coast Guard and Marine Corps. Greet and account for visitors/applicants in and out of the MEPS; muster applicants for processing and enlistment ceremonies, administer pre-oath briefings, also brief applicants on MEPS procedures. Verify applicant Emergency Data Records. Note and correct any discrepancies when differences occur. Screen applicant records to ascertain that all necessary documents are present according to the requirements of each military service.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 30lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

Specialized Experience: One year of human resources experience which includes reviewing personnel records to ensure accuracy; providing extensive customer service such as greeting applicants and answering inquiries; and utilizing an automated system to enter data. OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.
