About the Position: This position is located with the US Army Garrison Fort McCoy, Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshal Division, Operations Branch at Ft. McCoy, WI. Duties

Perform a broad range of law enforcement, investigation, crime prevention, traffic control, and community policing. Manage the Law Enforcement Division Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) program to ensure SOPs reflect changes in law, regulations or policies. Apprehend suspects utilizing the appropriate level of authorized force. Conduct preliminary investigations pertaining to felonies, misdemeanors and other criminal acts. Conduct traffic and security patrols to enforce federal, state, Department of Defense, Department of the Army and local regulations. Serve as the Captain of the Fort McCoy Police Department. Direct work for subordinate law enforcement officers.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Applicants must successfully graduate from the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy within 12 months of hire date; unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • The position requires applicant to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Must meet the conditions of employment identified in Army Regulation (AR) 190-56; "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program,". Prior to appointment you must agree in writing to adhere to these conditions of employment.
  • This position requires an initial and periodic medical examination to assess your ability to take the Physical Ability Test and to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • This position requires you to pass the record Physical Ability Test (PAT) within 30 days of being hired and annually thereafter.
  • This position requires the selectee to qualify annually for the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) as explained in IAW 190-56, Chapter 3.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019 Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
  • The position requires the selectee possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Incumbent is required to wear prescribed uniform.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10). Applicants who are current Federal employees or who are eligible for Reinstatement may be able to qualify with experience equivalent to the second lower grade, GS-09. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
