Duties
Supervise the day-to-day work of sergeants and police officers assigned to police station desk operations, patrol duties, and security post duties.
Prepare shift schedules, work assignments for shift personnel, authorize overtime work, and grant leave based upon mission requirements.
Conduct traffic and security patrols to enforce federal, state, Department of Defense, Department of the Army and local regulations.
Respond to and investigate offenses against persons and property.
Question and apprehend suspects utilizing the appropriate level of authorized force.
Serve as desk sergeant performing operational and administrative duties.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must meet the conditions of employment identified in Army Regulation (AR) 190-56; "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program,". Prior to appointment you must agree in writing to adhere to these conditions of employment.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- The position requires selectee to be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- This position requires the selectee to qualify annually for the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) as explained in IAW 190-56, Chapter 3.
- This position requires you to pass the record Physical Ability Test (PAT) within 30 days of being hired and annually thereafter.
- This position requires an initial and periodic medical examination to assess your ability to take the Physical Ability Test and to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
- This position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
- This position requires selectee to wear prescribed uniform.
- The position requires the selectee possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Selectee must successfully graduate from the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy within 12 months of hire date; unless selectee has a current approved waiver/exception from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes law enforcement work directing the activities of subordinates engaged in the protection of life, property, and the civil rights of citizens; providing leadership to police officers at scenes of serious incidents; developing and presenting formal training classes; observing or responding to reports of crime ranging from violations of simple rules to felonies and capital crimes; or conducting law enforcement investigations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
