As the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) System Manager within the Crew and Thermal Systems Division, Space Suit and Crew Survival Systems Branch, you will be responsible for systems management, project management, and technical expertise in the area of International Space Station EMU Suit systems. You will lead a team of highly skilled engineers and be recognized as an expert by programmatic and engineering management.

Duties

Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee. Perform system management functions to oversee technical progress and operations of Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) Suit Systems. Including oversight of contractor activities related to design, development, operational, and sustaining engineering. Serve as technical expert in the area of EMU Suit Systems leading efforts to identify anomalies while providing engineering recommendations to stakeholders, as required for resolution of issues. Serve as the technical authority for EMU Suit Systems during the review boards, acceptance reviews and Certification of Flight Readiness (COFR) processes. Continuously provide technical guidance, mentorship, delegation, and development assignments across the EMU Suit System Management Team to plan, evaluate, and/or resolve technical issues at the component, sub-system, and system level. Manage the technical direction for implementation of new capabilities and modification of existing capabilities for EMU Suit Systems hardware, software, training, analyses, and simulation systems. Work collaboratively with support contractor management teams to lead an integrated EMU Suit systems management team. Communicate technical principles, progress, and risks to both programmatic customers and engineering management. Utilize technical domain expertise in order to effectively manage stakeholder requirements while ensuring all System performance meets all requirements.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Leading a broad range of interdisciplinary development, design, test, and verification activities to ensure the System performance meets all System requirements; Providing technical oversight for the implementation of new capabilities/technologies as well as modifications of existing capabilities/technologies for a system with an emphasis on one or more of the following: computer hardware and software, mission training facilities, engineering analysis systems, simulation systems and tools; Managing System design, development, test, evaluation, and problem resolution of activities related to space suit systems, while applying creativity and innovation to meet programmatic objectives. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
