The primary purpose of this position, Aircraft Mechanic Leader, WL-8852-10, is to lead 3 or more journeyman aircraft mechanics in performing depot level maintenance on assigned aircraft, and to perform journeyman level (WG-10) maintenance work.
Duties
Lead aircraft mechanics in performing depot-level maintenance on assigned aircraft.
Perform journeyman level (WG-10) Aircraft Mechanic work involving repair of major aircraft systems.
Perform troubleshooting on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components.
Perform aircraft mechanical and related systems inspections.
Accomplish recordkeeping, documentation, and administrative tasks associated with aircraft maintenance and repair.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability to Lead or Supervise.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Physical Effort: The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Must climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh about 50 pounds with mechanical lifting devices or with assistance from other workers. Work requires bending, pulling, reaching above shoulder, walking, standing and crawling. Use of fingers, and both hands required; use of legs and arms, and both legs required. Requires depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors. NOTE: A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL IS REQUIRED.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in hanger areas, outdoors, in parked aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids, oil, hydraulic fluid, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases such as Hydrazine and Halon. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast.
