The primary purpose of this position, AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER, WL-8852-11, is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensure that subordinates complete assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.
Duties
Lead a team of trades and/or labor workers.
Perform nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.
Inspect the work performed by various specialists ensuring conformance with applicable operational specifications and correction of discrepancies or problems.
Coordinate and/or perform ground functional test (engine run-up) and troubleshooting work.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Must stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, and crawl. Frequently handles items weighting up to 20 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lifts and caries items weighting up to 50 pounds with human or mechanical assistance, such as hoists, hand trucks or lifts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Outside and inside (other than normal commuting). Excessive cold. Excessive noise, intermittent. Solvents (degreasing agents). Grease and oils. Electrical energy. Slippery or uneven walking surface. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. Working on ladders or scaffolding. Working closely with others. Additional environmental factors include wearing of protective equipment (liquid oxygen servicing apron, gloves, and face shield) and shift work.
