The primary purpose of this position, AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER, WL-8852-11, is to lead 12 to15 journeyman and sub journeyman aircraft mechanics in performing depot level maintenance on assigned aircraft.
Duties
Review planning and engineering letters on new aircraft with supervisor.
Assist the supervisor in carrying out various tasks or programs.
Review and maintain daily status of aircraft.
Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.

- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Must stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, and crawl. Frequently handles items weighting up to 20 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lifts and carries items weighting up to 50 pounds with human or mechanical assistance, such as hoists, hand trucks or lifts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in hanger areas, outdoors, in parked aircraft and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. The incumbent is exposed to extremes in heat, cold, and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. The incumbent is exposed to dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids, oil, hydraulic fluid, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases such as hydrazine and Halon on a regular basis. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. Maybe exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast.
