About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Distribute and balance workload among employees and ensures that all safety regulations, instructions and procedures are adhered to in order to avoid danger to personnel or equipment. Work along with employees within and around live fire training ranges and urban warfare facilities. Check work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisors instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines, and urges or advises other employees to follow supervisor?s instructions and to meet deadlines. Work along with other employees and sets pace performing non-supervisory work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Incumbent is subject to an irregular tour of duty to cover 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week operations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a government driver's license.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and annually thereafter.
• This position is a weather essential position.
• This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Works inside in areas, which may be dusty, drafty, noisy and unheated. Stands on concrete and gravel floors,and works outside in rough terrain. Works around military combat, and tactical wheel and track vehicles and heavy equipment during range and urban combat facilities training operations.Exposed to danger of loud noises, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies, and explosives. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries used in operating remotely controlled target devices. Is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns, electrical shock, falls, vehicle accidents, snake bites, skin irritants from poisonous plants and explosives. Hearing protective devices, hard hats with face shield and other safety equipment and devices are issued or readily available for use. Required to enter impact areas containing unexploded munitions.Environmental differential pay is authorized when the incumbent is required to load or unload Hoffman charges, deploy other electrically detonated explosive charges, and/or to work in areas generating a threat from unstable dud munitions.
